New Sources for the Biography of Franciszek Lilius and Members of His Family
Abstract
This article presents newly identified sources for the biography of Franciszek Lilius, chiefly parish registers and chapter records from Kraków and Tarnów. Foremost among the discoveries is Lilius’ baptismal record of 1604 from St Mary’s Basilica, which makes it possible to establish his place of birth. The author also reconstructs the composer’s social network and his activities during the final years of his life.
