Abstract

Giżycki analyses Wenders’s films from the point of view of the director’s fascination with America. None of European film makers has made so many films on America that would be regarded, if not formally European, as such. But as it will turn out later it is not uncritical adoration. And it is not a reciprocal love. Giżycki accentuates Wenders’s disillusionment with America caused by a clash between the director’s vision and a genuine America, between reality and myth. The myth taken from the cinema Wenders has cited in his film art with gusto and nostalgia.
