Through Torment, Wrongdoings and Struggle Towards American Democracy: Martin Scorsese’s “Gangs of New York” and Historical Truth
Abstract
The following is a comprehensive study on the film Gangs of New York from the historical and political perspective, drawing on historical sources, i.e. Tyler Abinder’s works on the rise of American power and democracy, and analysing the similarities and differences between the script and literary inspiration of the movie (Herbert Asbury’s book The Gangs of New York).
