Abstract
Kłoczowski points to a renewal of polytheistic thinking in some trends of post-modern thought. He cites views of German post-modernist Odo Marquard who opted for a revival of enlightened polymythism as any monomythicalness (also monotheism) led to totalitarianism, or negation of freedom. Kloczowski recounts a heated argument between Emmanuel Levinas and scholars and writers, including Rudolf Otto and Mircea Eliade, who praised sacrum. Levinas criticized all forms of religiousness that would differ from biblical monotheism, thereby he argued against the category of sacrum from the religious and philosophical standpoint.
