Abstract

Chyła distinguishes between artistic pictures and media images on the philosophical place. The era of the former, which were a material representation of things and which expressed ideas, is gone. Media images play a dominant role in the reception of the world. They bear the stamp of absence and immateriality. The world generated by media is unreal and artificial, and at the same time its commercial value is growing. Chyła points out the economic consequences of the situation, and notes that the market value is less and less related to goods production and more to information.
