Lady of the Boudoir of Distorting Mirrors
Abstract
Kanabrodzki discusses Actresses, the videodramas by Lothe and Lachmann Videoteatr „Poza”. Jolanta Lothe and Piotr Lachmann are inspired by Helmut Kajzar’s work. Kanabrodzki says that „Poza” and Kajzar’s theatre share the same Schulz’s homunculus-like soul which considers itself the star of world firmaments and is drifting all over Kajzar’s work, ignoring the borders of specific pieces, including Paternoster, The Buffoon’s Hairs and The Star. In Lothe-Lachmann’s videodrama, The Star is an icon. It does not go beyond gestures from the culture-set canon. The artificiality of The Star is the artificiality of culture. The Star struts in plumes as man has and will always do. It accepts even the most stupid parts in order not to be dropped from the culture-arranged script. Like an actress but a natural actress. Her histrionics results from an existential necessity. To be a human being means to be The Star.
