Abstract

The question when aesthetic film appreciation is not the key determining factor of its value is the starting point of Jarecka’s article. Citing critical evaluation of selected famous films and analyzing viewers’ interests, Jarecka tries to define the determinants of omitting artistic criteria, or „aesthetic leniency” toward a given film. She claims that it is possible to distinguish a few groups of film themes that form a peculiar protective shield against artistic shortcomings, and that themselves set the framework of film evaluation.
