(Re)Construction of Family History: Photographic Error Functioning as a Trick
Abstract
The author considers the trick character of two photographic images that accidentally overlap, and therefore do not belong to the category of recreational or spiritual photography. Interpretation of photographs from the family archive is inscribed in the broader context of the philosophy of photography with references to the theories of Roland Barthes, Franęois Soulages, Pierre Bourdieu and Marianna Michałowska. Budzik also touches on the relation between photographs and family narration, wondering how unintentional imagery influences the construction of a fantasy genealogy (a term coined by Joanna Bator).
