Cinema Genres and Film Cycles
Abstract
Film genres - alongside the star system and classic narration - are one of the pillars of the Hollywood system. Film genres, as well as film cycles, have been and still are one of the key elements of the workings of mainstream American film. In this article the author looks at the concept of film cycles paving its way towards scientific analysis. The problematic nature of the genre approach in the history of film studies is the starting point for incorporating the concept of film cycles into academic research.
