Kieślowski’s Chamber of Mirrors
Abstract
A book review of Kino Kieślowskiego, kino po Kieślowskim (Kieślowski ’s Cinema, Cinema after Kieślowski) edited by Andrzej Gwóźdź. Kempna argues that the contributors to the volume managed to present many different faces of the director, which highlight the discursive character of his work, and openness to polemics and discussion. The author points to the structure of the book, with subsequent articles building an open narrative of Kieslowski's lfe and work. The articles present llie evolution of Kieślowski as a director, his creativity and his understanding of art; they also present Kieslowski's artistic and pedagogic accomplishments, and how his work was received by various audiences. The work can be compared to a chamber of mirrors reflecting contemporary notions of art, as well as various trends in contemporary culture, including of course film.
