The Individual and the Community: “Let Us Fly Free Above the Garden” by Stanisław Latałło and “Reflected Light” by Andrzej Titkow, or Two Feature Films About Writers
Abstract
The author attempts to describe the work and the person of Stanisław Latałło. He looks at Latałło’s work as an operator, actor and above all film director, and the meaning of the legend of “Staszek” for the generation of 1968. The main theme of Latałło’s modest volume of work (he died tragically aged 29), is his obsession with early death. Particular attention is given to the film Let us fly free above the garden (1974) - a film portrait of two poets, one of whom, And (based on the person of Andrzej Bursa), dies at the age of 25. The use of the motif of dance macabre as a metaphor for the final moments of the main character’s life is given particular attention.
