Self-Animated Portrait
Abstract
The essay on self-portrait in movies. Giżycki argues that we can only deal with the genuine unquestioned self-portrait in the traditional meaning of the word in animated cartoons. They help create the situation in which a film director him/herself paints, draws or sculpts and in the end animates him/herself. The most interesting animated self-portraits have been created by women. Through animation women directors enter the world of their desires and fantasies. According to Giżycki, animation adds an extra dimension (time) to the classic self-portrait executed by a painter.
