Abstract

Lipszyc writes that the figure of artificial human denotes different things in philosophy, the Kabbala and psychoanalytical speculation. What they share is that the introduction of artificial man sounds out our superstitions, fears and possibilities. Automata often expose the inhuman character of men themselves and turn out to be more human than they are but probing may take place in a different way. Lipszyc analyses ways of sounding out in a series of Alien films in which artificial man plays the supporting role (doctor), in Mr Blob’s Academy of Jan Brzechwa where Alojzy, the puppet, plays the key part and in Blade Runner where androids are the central theme.
