An Ideal Man
Abstract
Radkiewicz reflects on what makes scientists work to conceive of artificial humans. The point is that the idea (project) of an ideal human collapses when it appears to seek independence and to have emotional needs. That was the case with Frankenstein’s monster and so is the case with android Ulysses in Susan Seidelman’s film Making Mr. Right. The film is built by Seidelman, who is a director with a feminist bias, on the play of culture sex patterns rooted in contemporary America. The film tells the story of the relationship between an ad executive and the android she has been hired to promote and teach good manners. But what makes the android human is emotional experience.
