Abstract

Roland Barthes was interested in Proust all his life. But this was not only a „scholarly” interest. Citing Barthes’s own words, one could rather say that he had lived in a Proust world. The French critic’s last book La chambre claire. Note sur la photographie (1980) is an example of this statement. Starting from the stand close to Proust’s opinion that photography would be some kind of „frozen” external „remembrance of facts”, Barthes goes beyond this stance. The text is a detailed analysis of coincidences of the experiences.
