Abstract

Stressing that the cinema has not killed the old art of projection and has only become one of its varieties, Giżycki demonstrates on concrete examples today’s facets of that art. He cites productions by Tony Oursler, Krzysztof Wodiczko and James Turrell. Oursler is primarily known for projections of face images on to the empty heads of rag dolls, or the images of magnified moving eyes on to hung-up balls. Wodiczko projects slides and video films on to monuments and building facades, and his projections are political as a rule. Turrell designs illusions of space with light, introducing the public into contemplative reality.
