Audiovisual Landscapes of Images and Things
Abstract
The following is a review of an anthology of foreign texts entitled Pejzaże audiowizualne. Telewizja – wideo – komputer [Audiovisual Landscapes: Television – Video – Computer] (1997), the book prepared by Andrzej Gwóźdź. Zawojski argues that the anthology is representative for a wide spectrum of various strategies of humanistic reflection upon the world of today’s audiovisual media in the context of cultural and civilizational changes. He also analyzes Gwóźdź’s monograph entitled Obrazy i rzeczy. Film między mediami [Pictures and Things: Film Between the Media] (1997), stressing that it is not just a „dry theoretical discourse”. The book includes interesting analyses which serve to exemplify his theses and are an integral part of the argument.
