Abstract

The materials from the archives of Stanislaw Witold Balicki encompass notes from Polish programs broadcast by Radio Free Europe and other foreign radio stations that produced broadcasts in Polish. These broadcasts were systematically jammed, yet audiences in Poland endeavored to access them, as they constituted the sole source of information that the authorities sought to conceal or distort. Concurrently, the authorities had established extensive infrastructure for monitoring services in zones unaffected by the jamming. Specialized equipment was employed for the purpose of recording foreign programs. The reprinted typescripts encompass the transcribed content of the broadcasts dedicated to Dejmek's Forefather's Eve and its tumultuous reception. The materials are preceded by the editor’s commentary, where he emphasizes that they can also be read as propaganda forms serving, among other things, to destabilize the socialist bloc.
